Baby Chicks!

Spring is in the air (well, not really since it's going to be 29 degrees Monday night) and Easter is right around the corner.  What better way to celebrate the newness of life than with little baby chickens!  So we went down to the Tractor Supply Co to buy some.  (They have baby ducks too, but we raise chickens on this farm)  We came home with 2 Cornish hens, 2 bantams, and 2 Rhode Island Reds.  (They lay lots of eggs)  Here they are.....our new cuties!
All the way home Andrew was dying to hold them.  Finally, when we made it to the house, we let him hold one of the ones that he picked out all by himself.  He named it "Chip."  He was very gentle and he really liked his new friend.
It was pretty chilly outside and we told him that we needed to get chip back inside and under the lamp because he was getting cold.  Andrew's answer was "Well, go get a blanket for him."
Here he says, "He's on my pants!"

Much to Granna and Paw-Paw's dismay, the baby chicks are living in the house right now.  We've got them set up in an old wash tub, with a heat lamp keeping them warm.  We'll move them out to the chicken coop next week when it warms up a little.  :)  But for now, they're in the house with us.  This is how I found them after we got them all settled in....

Andrew loves his baby chicks.  Their names are: Chip, Kent (andrew named those), Lucy, Fancy Pants, Chicka (after the puppet on Sprout), and Dumplin'.   Every morning Andrew comes down the stairs and runs over to the washtub and says "Good mornin' baby chicks.  What doin?"  And anytime we get ready to leave he runs over to say "Bye bye little chickens.  See you later."
