Drew and I left Hawaii Thursday night on the red-eye to Vegas. Our flight left at 10:50 pm Hawaii time and arrived in Phoenix a little after 7 am. Drew and I didn't get to sit together. (I guess that's what you get when you wait until Tuesday, 2 days before your flight to buy your tickets.) I sat between two older men. One of whom had garlic shrimp for dinner. I knew this because he slept with his mouth WIDE open! The aroma was so strong that Drew thought someone had brought their dinner with them to eat on the plane! Both of these gentlemen fell asleep soon after take off and at one point or another had their heads on my shoulder and their legs in my leg space. Needless to say I didn't sleep a wink. I dozed a little bit between our initial descent and the landing in Phoenix and adrenaline had kicked in from Phoenix to Vegas, so no sleep on that flight either.
We arrived in Las Vegas at 10:30 am. Drew decided to go to the ATM to get some cash. When he reached for his wallet, it wasn't there! I ran back to the gate to check the plane. No luck. (don't panic) So we called the Phoenix airport and lo and behold they had it in the lost and found. (Hallelujah!) They shipped it fed-ex over night and told us it would arrive Saturday morning at our hotel.
A friend picked us up from the airport and took us to our hotel for one night, the IP (Imperial Palace). We thought we'd save some money by staying in a cheaper hotel. Cheap is a good way to describe it. We got to our room around 11:30 to find that there were mirrors on the ceiling.
There was even a "love tub" complete with mirrors above it too! You couldn't pay me enough to get in it though. It looked less than clean.
After a good laugh at our accommodations, it was time to meet Drew's high school friend, Christopher, for lunch. He works at the Wynn, so that's where we met him. We had lunch inside the Encore at a place called Society. The decor was amazing. I felt like such a tourist, but I had to take some pictures. It was beautiful.
So elegant! The black and white was accented with neon pink and green. It sounds crazy but it was gorgeous!
I had the "lunch box" special. Salad with spring greens, figs, plums, pears, cranberries, walnuts with a pomegranate vinaigrette. The half sandwich was a turkey club with apple wood smoked bacon. For dessert there were 2 homemade doughnut holes. Yum!
Among the tables, there were also booths, which as you can see here were pink. I took this one for you Annah! You would have loved it there.
After lunch, Chris gave us a tour of the hotel/casino. It was absolutely gorgeous. Here's a walk way with a restaurant/bar in the middle. All the trees and flowers are real.
Peacock-not real!
Next, we got a special treat! We got to take a tour of one of the nicest tower suites at the Encore. This bad boy was a two-story suite with over 2,800 square feet. The following pictures do not do it justice. You can only imagine what a room like this might cost.
Yes, I'm aware that the lighting in this picture is terrible, but you can see the view and the floor to ceiling windows!
This is a panoramic shot standing at the window looking back at the front door.
Did I mention that this room came with a "massage room?"
AND a game room?
The beautiful stairway (if you're not in the mood for stairs you can always use your own personal elevator!
Hallway upstairs looking down to the 2nd master suite. Notice the open balcony on the left overlooking the living area downstairs.
Obviously a corner unit...here's the master bedroom.
One of the master bathrooms.
There were also 2 full kitchens with stainless steel appliances, but I was so busy pulling my jaw off the floor that I didn't take pictures of everything! Even the elevator lobby was beautiful!
Seeing that suite was absolutely amazing and quite possibly the highlight of my trip. All I know is we need to make some more money so I can stay in rooms like that! (No mirrors on those ceilings!)
We spent the next couple of hours walking around the different casinos. This picture was taken in one of the lobbies of the Palazzo. I love all the fall colors.
I think this one was in the Venetian.
While in the Venetian, we stopped by a little cafe and paid $6.50 for this fruit tart. (worth every penny!) We sat outside and listened as the gondolas rowed on by.
With a belly full of fruit tart, my lack of sleep was catching up with me. Drew suggested I take a nap since we had tickets to a late show. (He really just wanted to go play poker) but he'll tell ya he was just looking out for my well being. So I took a quick nap and Drew played poker. We met up with some friends of mine from Auburn for dinner. The guy in the red is the reason we're here. (He's turning 30!)
After dinner Drew and I saw Ray Romano (from Everybody Loves Raymond). It was such a good show. He and I both laughed until we cried! I wasn't allowed to take pictures inside the theater, which was bummer, because we were sitting very close on the third row! It was a great way to end our first day in Vegas!
